Blog post 3- Social Media and Development

I believe that to a certain extend social media can actully help social change. I say this only because, yes social media is helping a lot by publisising all the need and groups that you can help support threw facebook, twitter, my space and all social media's. You can help by being a part of them and showing your interest in each type of thing that the group is trying to accomplish. But by saying that you "like" or that you are "apart of a group" it only shows that you agree with it but it doesnt actully show that you are doing somthing and that you will do somthing to try and change whatever the cause may be.
So like I said, social media is a great way to show everyone that need that are out there and how they need the help but it doesnt mean that they will help and actully make a real social change.

  1. I highly agree with your blog because social media is expanding in all areas of the world. They are mainly increasing in publishing through social networks like Facebook and twitter that people use daily. For citizens to communicate with each other, its either phone, email or something that has to deal with social networking. Social media is increasing social change and will be consistent on the future years to come.

  2. I agree that saying you are a part of a group or like something is not really changing anything for most of us, but someone who wasn't aware of an group that might truly impact their life might see these things and truly get involved. And I do feel we downplay the role of the majority supporting a cause; for those out there really doing something I think it can't be a bad thing to have a cheering section!

  3. I do agree with what you are saying, but only to a certain extent. These "cause groups" are reaching a vast amount of people in a short amount of time. Being a part of a group or cause does not necessarily mean that people are helping but it does mean that many people are becoming aware of what is going on in the world. Being aware is one thing, but people do have a conscience, and mostly the "big business people" or politicians in the world today would not be concerned with how many people are helping but how many people how have joined that group or cause. So yes, I do believe that social media is about to change society to a certain extent, it may not be much, but it will be a recognizable amount.

  4. I agree with you that the social media is now part of us. I also want to say that the social media not only increase the society, but also to the communication, which allow us to receive news in the instant. As I said in my blog, What will happen in the future with these leftover of technology and it not only affect to the person's exterior, but as well inside the person's mind.

  5. You make a valid argument how Social media to an extent can promote social change, and it really has changed a lot of the way we do things in today's society. It's interesting to look at it from your perspective, because I did as well mention how common causes and interest can bring unknown people together in an essence, suggesting that Social Media can bring about real societal change, but you pose a very good counter argument in that just because liking a page or coming together eclectically as one unanimous group doesn't mean to say any action will be brought forth necessarily. Therefore can social change really be brought about through mediums like facebook for instance.. it's a tough question. I do believe that social media really has no limits though, as time progresses I'm sure a method will be discovered.
